Set in 1918, Princess Diana grows up on the Amazon island of Themyscira. American pilot Steve Trevor crashes offshore of the island and is rescued by Diana. After he tells Diana about World War I, she leaves her home in order to end the war.
Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war to end all wars, discovering her full powers and true destiny.
The title character aka Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) grows up in the hidden, mythical island of Themyscira which is inhabited only by female warriors whose values are similar to those in Greek mythology. Diana is later brought into the "other world" during World War I and works with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), a military captain. The two have similar goals but with very different perceptions of what is happening.<br/><br/>The beginning third of the film is superb. The Amazon island is idyllic and the other-worldly cultural perspective of its inhabitants is fascinating. There is also great amusement and enjoyment when Diana enters the "normal" world where her wiser Amazon outlook is very out-of-place.<br/><br/>The second third of the film is quite good as well but sadly, things deteriorate by the final third. The mythology that was so welcome in the beginning gets jumbled and confusing in the concluding segment. The final disintegration is guaranteed after a major decision is made. It is not just eye-rollingly hoaky and unbelievable; it's not even comprehensible.<br/><br/>Gadot and Pine are likeable and certainly good-looking but they are not always up to par for lead roles. There are times their performances come off as weak though they are good for most of the movie. Overall, it's too bad the film's great beginning went so far downhill by the end.
Wow!<br/><br/>What a wreck…. WW has nice visuals, but that was about it.<br/><br/>The whole film is slow, the intro on the "magic island" is coma inducing, the solemnity of the dialogue could cause paralysis better than any curare dart, the musical score was uninspired as though it was composed "on automatic" by whoever composed it. And the Amazons were as convincing as a bunch of Victoria Secret's models trying to beat bare handedly a team of elite SEALS. And they even tried to speak with a lower voice, which was ridiculous.<br/><br/>The main actress is stiff, with no charisma, C. Pine and the guys playing Germans were way better than her. And the villain was as scary as the Easter Bunny on a bad hair day.<br/><br/>Summarizing, WW is as dull as ditch water. There is nothing here, maybe only for the PC crowd.
Wonder Woman is smart, slick, and satisfying in all of the ways superhero films ought to be. How deliciously ironic that in a genre where the boys seem to have all the fun, a female hero and a female director are the ones to show the fellas how it’s done.
The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags have been used sparingly in order to make the page more readable. For detailed information about the amounts and types of (a) sex and nudity, (b) violence and gore, © profanity, (d) alcohol, drugs, and smoking, and (e) frightening and intense scenes in this movie, consult the IMDb Parents Guide for this movie. The Parents Guide for Wonder Woman can be found here. No, there is not. No. This film's story takes place 100 years before the events of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and seeing the previously released film does not give any major insight into the story or characters of Wonder Woman. However, this film does begin and end with a framing scene set in modern day, where Diana Prince, the secret identity of Wonder Woman, receives the original glass photo plate of the photograph she took during World War I, which leads into the flashback of the rest of the film. This ties into Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice from a scene where Bruce Wayne discovers a digital copy of the photo which lead to him learning that Diana Prince was Wonder Woman. It's possible to answer this question by comparing the pieces of evidence made available by the film. First, because Diana is the only child on the island, we can assume that Diana's and Themyscira's ages are one and the same. We have no way of knowing how old Diana is in this story, so it makes the most sense to tie her chronological age to Gal Gadot, who was 32 when this movie was released. Second, Greek Mythology's tradition dates back to the 9th century BC, although historians theorize that those written traditions are recording oral history that dates as far back as the 12th century BC. Therefore, by comparing those two time spans, we can postulate that for every year that passes on the island of Themyscira, about 100 years have passed in the world of Man. This estimate of time ratio ( or rather ageing ratio ) is supported by Diana seeming to be almost the same age in the present day, as she was during WW1. No, nothing that happens at the end of Wonder Woman indicates that World War II would no longer happen within the DC Extended Universe movies. This question comes up because Ares, the god of war, is killed by Wonder Woman at the end of the film which leads some viewers to think this means war will never break out among humans again, preventing World War II and any others. However, when Ares reveals his true identity to Wonder Woman he explains that he does not create the desire in humans to start war but that they already have it in them. Ares simply sees the wars that humans make on their own and pushes them along so that it feeds his power. So the death of Ares in this film does not mean that humans would no longer engage in war. A hundred years later, we see in Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad that the nations of the world still have militaries. Also, in a real life historical context, World War II began as a direct result of the sociopolitical climate in Germany after the First World War. Wonder Woman helps to end the First World War, but does not have any part on those larger historical factors which cause Hilter's later rise to power.
